Lent at FPC

BEGINNING FEBRUARY 18

This Lent, we lean into the invitation to deepen our roots and grow together in faith, mercy, and love. Lent comes from the Latin word lencten, meaning “springtime.” These forty days are a “springtime for the soul” as we let God renew our hearts and deepen our roots together. Let’s grow!

Throughout Lent, pastors and staff will lead an engaging series taking members deeper into this season and the rich layers of our Lenten liturgy. Together we will explore the meaning of Ash, Wednesday, the distinctive character of Lenten music, and the theological purpose behind each of the Holy Week services—from Palm Sunday to Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

GMU Religion Lecture

MAR 25 | 7:30PM | GMU In partnership with GMU’s Department of Religious Studies, FPC invites you to the second annual lecture on faith, scripture, and Christianity. Dr. Dale C. Allison will be speaking on “Jesus’s Resurrection: History and Parallels” in the Fenwick Library Main Reading Room on Wednesday, March 25 at 7:30PM. FPC van available. Rare Book Tour through Presbyterian History

APR 4 | 10:30AM | VIRGINIA THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY

Vincent Williams is leading this field-trip on Saturday, April 4 at 10:30AM at Virginia Theological Seminary. Join Vincent for a behind-the-scenes tour through Presbyterian history with the Bishop Payne Library's rare book collection. Highlights include the first English-language reformed liturgical book, early printings of Calvin's Institutes, the first edition of the Geneva Bible, the first printed draft of the Westminster Confession for parliamentary review, plans for "Presbyterian" models of government, and controversial Presbyterian sermons and pamphlets from the mid-17th century. RSVP required, limit to 15 total attendees. Meet at FPC at 10AM to ride in the church van from FPC to VTS. Option to eat lunch together following the library visit.

We finish our “Deepening our Roots” Lenten series by celebrating Earth Care Sunday and deepening our care for God’s creation. Worship will be followed by a youth-led Stream Clean-up. Join us!

Cap2Cap Bike Ride

MAY 9 |  Join the FPC Cycling Small Group for a ride on the beautiful Virginia Capital Trail between Richmond and Williamsburg. The ride features four distance options: Century (100 miles), Half Century (50 miles), Quarter Century (25 miles), and 7-mile Family Fun Ride.
